Ukrainian Heritage Day Ontario Celebration! Organized by St. Vladimir Institute and Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Ontario Provincial Council (UCC-OPC), in cooperation with the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Ontario Branch and the UCRDC - Ukrainian Canadian Research & Documentation Centre. Come and enjoy our exciting program celebrating Ukrainian Heritage Day in Ontario! 5:30 pm. Doors open. 5:45 pm. Plaque Unveiling: A re-dedication of a plaque in honour of Corporal Filip Konowal, Ukrainian immigrant, World War I soldier, and Victoria Cross recipient for valour at the Battle for Hill 70 (with Dr. Lubomyr Luciuk). 6:00 – 8:30 pm. Refreshments will be served in the theatre Suggested donations: $5–$7 6:30 pm. Official Ukrainian Heritage Day Ontario ceremony in the Theatre. 7:00 pm. Talk on Immigration to Canada. Ukrainian immigrants’ life as compared to other immigrant ethnic groups. Presented by Dr. Alexander Roman, Cultural Committee member. 7:30 pm. This Blessed Land: Walter Wekarchuk Art Exhibit Opening. Walter Wekarchuk is a Ukrainian Canadian artist from Montreal, whose grandparents immigrated to Canada in 1913. 8:30 pm. Film Screening: Music of Survival-The Story of the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus (60 min), will be presented by Producer/Director Orest Sushko. The documentary is a vivid chronicle that celebrates the human spirit - the triumphant story of the original seventeen members of the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus who survived World War II as a musical ensemble, and survive to this day. Ongoing throughout the evening: • Trunk Tales – leaving home… coming home… Tours in the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Ontario Branch • UCRDC exhibit about Filip Konoval, Ukrainian immigrant, World War I soldier, Victoria Cross recipient for valour at the Battle for Hill 70. Exhibit tour and documentary film screening. • St. Vladimir Institute Library book display: Ukrainian Immigration to Canada. Books will also be available for sale “by donation”.
