Shades of Our Sisters invites audiences to honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Transgender and 2 Spirit Peoples. Attendees will be transported into the grief, laughter and love of two families sharing who their loved ones are and what the loss of their life means, challenging Canadians to realize the injustice of this National tragedy. On July 22nd, Shades of Our Sisters will be open at St. Vladimir's Institute in Toronto, ON. Admittance is FREE to this event. When: Saturday July 22nd, 9:00 am - 8:00 pm CEREMONY: 6:30 pm If you have any questions please email us at info@shadesofoursisters.com, and keep updated with the project at shadesofoursisters.com The exhibit tells the stories of Sonya Cywink and Patricia Carpenter, two of the 1,200 + MMIWGT2S, through a combination of film, soundscapes and personal artifacts. At the top of every hour and half hour, visitors will be able to view short documentaries which tell the stories of Sonya and Patricia. Their poems, childhood dolls and clothing they wore will allow audiences to come to know Sonya and Patricia and the impact which they had on their families, friends and communities. This intimate experience offers audiences a closeness to these two remarkable young women, humanizing their lives and showing them as more than just a statistic.
