Discovering the Lost Instruments of Ukraine: A lecture and musical demonstration exploring the history and development of traditional Ukrainian stringed lutes — the torban, kobza, and bandura. Presented by Jurij Fedynskyj, Ukrainian-American composer, torbanist, bandurist, luthier, singer-songwriter, and teacher. Free admission. Jurij Fedynskyj has spent the past 15 years working to resurrect early Ukrainian lutes, researching their construction from a handful of surviving instruments in Ukrainian museums, and mastering the techniques required to build and play new instruments. He is one of several luthiers who create traditional examples of the kobza, toban and bandura, and the only player who regularly performs traditional repertoire on all three. He teaches music and lutherie in the Poltava region of Ukraine. This year, he has returned to North America to share the research, knowledge, and music he has accumulated. He is "Kobzaring the New World." More info about Jurij Fedynskyj and his work: http://kobzarskiytabir.bravesites.com/
